Terms and Conditions | Privacy PolicyMonument is its own animal. You’re higher up than Colorado Springs, colder in winter, buried in snow more often than your friends down in the Springs believe when you tell them, and surrounded by enough ponderosa pine that your HVAC filter fills up with needle dust regularly.
The homes tend to be bigger, the lots tend to be wooded, and a surprising number of them run on propane rather than natural gas because the utility infrastructure never quite kept pace with the development.
Olympic City Air handles all of it. We’re a family-run HVAC shop with 20+ years of field experience and a BBB A+ rating, and we’ve spent enough time in Monument homes to know the difference between a Jackson Creek two-story, a Woodmoor cabin retrofit, and a newer build out toward Kings Deer. Your HVAC needs are legitimately different up here than in the rest of El Paso County, and we treat them that way.

What Makes Monument, CO Different From Its Neighbors
The Palmer Divide is the thing nobody explains to new Monument residents until after their first winter. The Divide is a broad, subtle ridge running east-west across northern El Paso County, and Monument sits right on top of it at roughly 6,960 feet. That’s nearly a thousand feet higher than downtown Colorado Springs, and about fifteen hundred feet higher than Fountain. The weather consequences are real. Storms that drop rain in the Springs drop snow in Monument. Storms that drop two inches in the Springs often drop six or eight up here. And the whole region ends up getting clipped by moisture coming down from the north AND upslope moisture pushing west off the plains, because the Divide does weird things to weather systems.
For HVAC equipment, that means a few specific realities. Furnaces in Monument log way more runtime hours than furnaces in the Springs or Fountain, which means they wear out sooner and need more attention. Heat pumps have to be spec’d for genuinely cold weather, not just “mild Colorado winter” assumptions, because you’ll see single-digit overnight lows regularly and sub-zero stretches most winters. Snow load on outdoor condenser units and heat pump pads is a real consideration. And combustion appliances (especially propane furnaces) need their venting checked more often because of how snow drifts can block exterior terminations.
The other thing that shapes HVAC work in Monument is the housing itself. Most homes are on larger lots, which means longer duct runs, more complex zoning requirements, and often two-furnace or two-AC setups in homes over 3,000 square feet.
A good chunk of the older Woodmoor-area homes run on propane because natural gas service didn’t extend that far until relatively recently. And the forested terrain means many homes have significant tree cover that dumps needles, pollen, and organic debris into outdoor units year-round.
The HVAC Services We Handle in Monument, CO
Air Conditioning Services
Monument summers are milder than the rest of El Paso County, which is why many older homes here still don’t have central AC. But as summer temperatures have crept up over the last decade, more homeowners are adding cooling for the first time. Our air conditioning services cover everything from adding central air to homes that never had it, to servicing existing systems, to installing ductless mini-splits in older cabins where running new ductwork isn’t practical. Altitude-adjusted sizing matters even more here than in the Springs because every extra 1,000 feet of elevation further reduces cooling capacity.
AC Repair
Most AC failures we see in Monument have one of three root causes: pine needle debris clogging the outdoor coil, hail damage from summer storms that sweep across the Divide, or refrigerant leaks in systems that have been sitting idle most of the year and developed micro-cracks at the joints. Our AC repair service covers everything. We work on every major brand, we carry the parts that fail most often around here, and we handle most repairs on the first visit. Same-day during business hours, 24/7 emergency with a two-hour response target.
AC Installation & Replacement
If you’re adding cooling to a Monument home for the first time, or replacing a system that was undersized at installation, we handle the whole process from load calculation to startup. Adding AC to an older home usually involves duct modifications, electrical upgrades, and sometimes an outdoor pad or bracket install where the property slopes. We’re a Trane shop, and that’s what we typically install, but we’ll spec what’s actually right for your home and budget rather than pushing a one-size recommendation. Free in-home estimates, free second opinions.
Heat Pump Services & Replacements
Heat pumps are genuinely excellent for Monument homes, particularly for the propane-reliant ones where homeowners are tired of fuel delivery surprises and propane price spikes. A properly sized cold-climate heat pump can replace both a propane furnace and a central AC. Once federal and state tax credits, plus Colorado Springs Utilities rebates, are factored in, the net cost often drops dramatically. Our heat pump services include emergency repair, seasonal tune-ups, and full cold-climate installs. We file all the rebate paperwork for you.
Indoor Air Quality
Monument has cleaner outdoor air than most of El Paso County on average. Still, two things make indoor air worse than people expect: pollen and organic debris from the surrounding forest, and wildfire smoke that rolls through every summer. Our indoor air quality work starts with actual testing to fix the right thing, then moves into targeted solutions: high-MERV filtration for pollen and smoke particles, whole-home HEPA for homes with allergy issues, humidifiers for the dry winter months, and UV lights when they genuinely help.

Why Monument, CO Homeowners Call Us?
Monument is a community where homeowners do their research before they hire anyone. People here generally get multiple quotes, check BBB and Angi thoroughly, and ask neighbors before making a call. That’s the right instinct, and it’s how we’d want our own family members to hire a contractor, too.
So here’s what we stand on. Flat-rate written quotes before any work, and they’re good for 30 days, so you have time to think it over. Free second opinions on anyone else’s estimate, because we’d rather you make an informed decision than a rushed one. A real 24/7 phone line with a real person, and a two-hour emergency response commitment that holds on weekends, holidays, and through snowstorms. Sixteen-plus years of real field experience behind every diagnosis. Family-owned, locally operated, BBB A+, and recognized on Angi.

Your HVAC Questions, Answered
Find answers to common questions about HVAC service, maintenance, and installation in Colorado Springs.
Is heating a Monument home really that different from heating a Colorado Springs home?
More different than people expect. Monument's elevation is nearly 1,000 feet higher than downtown Colorado Springs, and the Palmer Divide weather pattern means more snow, colder overnight lows, and significantly more heating-degree days per year. A furnace or heat pump sized for a Springs home of the same square footage will often underperform up here. That's why correct altitude-adjusted sizing and accurate load calculations matter more in Monument than in most of the region.
Do many Monument homes use propane instead of natural gas?
Yes, especially in the older Woodmoor area and in rural or large-lot properties where natural gas service didn't extend. Propane furnaces work well, but they carry a few specific maintenance considerations, including tank monitoring, venting clearances, and the risk of price spikes during cold snaps. We service propane equipment just like we service natural gas equipment, and we're also the team to call if you're considering switching from propane to a heat pump.
How do you handle snow accumulation around outdoor units?
For heat pumps and ACs alike, the outdoor unit should be installed on a pad that keeps it elevated above the typical snowline, and the area around the unit should be cleared after significant snowfall. Snow piled against a unit restricts airflow and can damage fan blades when ice forms. We install with this specifically in mind, and we can come out to adjust pad height or relocate a unit that's been causing trouble season after season.
Does Olympic City Air service homes on acreage outside of downtown Monument?
Yes. We regularly work on properties in the outer Monument areas, Kings Deer, the Palmer Lake vicinity, and the larger-lot subdivisions on both sides of I-25. Longer driveways and wooded access don't slow us down. Call us, and we'll confirm your address is in our standard service zone.
Are there rebates for heat pump installations in Monument?
Yes. Federal tax credits cover 30% of qualifying high-efficiency heat pumps up to $2,000. Colorado offers a state heat pump tax credit stackable with the federal credit. Colorado Springs Utilities runs rebate programs that vary by system type and efficiency rating (Monument is in the CSU service area). Stacked together, these incentives can shave several thousand dollars off the net cost of a heat pump upgrade. We handle all the paperwork so nothing gets denied on a technicality.
