Most of the homes we work on in Security were built somewhere between 1955 and 1985. Ranches. Split-levels. A lot of single-story tract homes that went up fast during the Fort Carson expansion years have been quietly holding up ever since. Which is charming until you realize your furnace is from the Reagan administration and your AC has seen more Colorado summers than most of the trees in your yard.

That’s where we come in. Olympic City Air is a family-run HVAC shop that’s been working on Security homes for the better part of sixteen years. We repair, install, and replace the whole spectrum of residential heating and cooling equipment, and we do it the way it should’ve been done the first time around. Flat-rate pricing. Written quotes before any tools come out. A phone line that a real person answers, including at 11 p.m. on a Sunday.

What Makes Security, CO Homes Different

Security (technically Security-Widefield, though nobody in town uses the full name in casual conversation) is an unincorporated community tucked between Colorado Springs to the north and Fountain to the south, hugging the east side of I-25. Somewhere around 38,000 people live here, a good chunk of them tied to Fort Carson one way or another. The elevation runs right around 5,700 feet, slightly lower than Colorado Springs proper but still high enough that altitude matters for every HVAC system we install.

Here’s what makes Security distinct from its neighbors. The housing stock is older and more consistent than almost anywhere else in the region. Big swaths of the community went up during the 1950s through the 1970s as Fort Carson grew, which means a huge percentage of the homes we service here have ductwork, electrical panels, and original HVAC infrastructure that’s pushing or past fifty years old. When we roll up to a Security house, there’s a reasonable chance we’ll see galvanized ducts, undersized returns, and a furnace closet that hasn’t been opened in a decade.

The community also sits lower and flatter than Colorado Springs, which changes a few things. Dust from the prairie east of town settles faster. Summer heat collects more readily in homes without shade trees. Winter wind off the plains hits harder, especially in the Widefield end of the community. And because many of the original builders cut corners on insulation back in the day, many Security homes lose more heat through the attic and walls than they should. That’s not an HVAC problem exactly, but it does mean heating and cooling loads run higher than the square footage alone would suggest, and we take that into account every time we size a replacement system.

The HVAC Services We Cover in Security, CO

Rather than list every service we offer in one lump, here’s a breakdown of what we handle, with links to the full service pages.

Air Conditioning Services

Older Security homes often have air conditioners that were added after the original construction, sometimes with ductwork that wasn’t designed to handle cooling loads in the first place. Our air conditioning services cover everything from seasonal tune-ups and coil cleaning to refrigerant work, thermostat upgrades, and full diagnostics on systems that aren’t cooling evenly from room to room. If your bedroom is always ten degrees warmer than the living room, that’s usually a ductwork issue dressed up as an AC problem, and we’ll tell you straight.

AC Repair

Most AC repair calls we take in Security come from homes where the outdoor unit is either original to a 1990s install or replaced around 2010, and nobody’s touched it since. Common failures here: capacitor blowouts after a summer thunderstorm, contactor burn from rodents nesting in the condenser (a real thing and we see it often in older neighborhoods), refrigerant leaks at aged line-set joints, and frozen coils from years of skipped maintenance. Our trucks carry the parts that actually fail around here. Most repairs wrap up in one visit.

AC Installation & Replacement

If your current AC is 15+ years old, still uses R-22 refrigerant, or has needed repairs for 3 summers in a row, a replacement probably makes more financial sense than another Band-Aid fix. We’re factory-trained Trane dealers, we handle Manual J sizing properly for Security’s elevation, and we price our AC installation and replacement projects flat-rate. Hence, there are no surprises once the truck arrives. Free in-home estimates. Free second opinions on anyone else’s quote. Rebate paperwork handled on your behalf.

Heat Pump Services & Replacements

Heat pumps make a lot of sense for Security homes, especially the older ones, where the furnace is nearing retirement and the AC is close behind. One system replaces both; energy bills usually drop, and modern cold-climate units handle Colorado winters without breaking a sweat. Our heat pump services cover repair, seasonal tune-ups, and full installation. Federal and state tax credits stack with Colorado Springs Utilities rebates, and we file the paperwork for you.

Indoor Air Quality

Older housing stock, prairie dust, wildfire smoke, and tight weatherization upgrades that trap everything inside equals air that isn’t doing your family any favors. Our indoor air quality service starts with testing, not selling. We measure what’s actually in your air (particulates, humidity, airflow), then recommend fixes if warranted. Filtration upgrades, whole-home HEPA purifiers, UV lights, and humidifiers where the house is too dry. If your air is already fine, we’ll tell you that and save you the money.

Why Security, CO Neighbors Keep Calling Olympic City Air

Security is a tight-knit community, and word travels fast when a contractor does right or does wrong by a homeowner. That reality shaped how we run the shop from the beginning. We’re not trying to be the biggest HVAC company in the I-25 corridor. We’d rather be the one your neighbor texted you about when her furnace went out last January.

Here’s what that means in practice. Flat-rate quotes in writing, 30 days to think it over, no pressure. A 24/7 line that a person actually picks up, with a 2-hour response time for real emergencies. Free second opinions if you’ve got a quote from somebody else you’re unsure about. Military and veteran discounts for Security’s big Fort Carson community (ask when you book). Factory-trained Trane techs with 20+ years of real-world experience in homes that look a lot like yours. BBB A+, Angi-recognized, and financing available through approved credit when needed.

We also cover Colorado Springs, Fountain, Woodland Park, Peyton, Monument, and Black Forest, so our crews know the entire southern Front Range inside and out.

FAQS

Your HVAC Questions, Answered

Find answers to common questions about HVAC service, maintenance, and installation in Colorado Springs.

Generally yes. The original ductwork in many Security, CO, homes was undersized for modern heating and cooling loads, and attic and wall insulation often hasn't been updated since the house was built. Both of those things force HVAC systems to work harder to hit the same comfort level. The good news is that most of it is fixable, either through targeted duct improvements or by sizing replacement equipment with those realities in mind. We've done enough of these homes to know what to look for.

Yes. Security, CO, has a large military community among active-duty Fort Carson personnel, retirees, and veterans, and we offer discounts on repair, maintenance, and installation work to thank folks for their service. Mention it when you book, or when the tech arrives, and we'll apply it to the quote.

Usually inside two hours, around the clock. Our crews operate out of the broader Colorado Springs area, and we keep Security, CO, firmly within our standard response zone. Most emergencies are fully resolved on the first visit because our trucks are stocked with the parts that fail most often in older homes.

Often, yes, if both units are older and share the same ductwork. Replacing them as a matched pair lets us size the system correctly for the whole home, identify any ductwork improvements that need to be made, and unlock bigger rebates than replacing them one at a time. It's also the cheaper option in most cases because labor is consolidated into a single install. We'll walk you through the math on a free in-home estimate.

Absolutely. We repair and service older residential HVAC equipment every day in Security, CO. That said, once a system is 15 years old, repairs start getting more expensive than they're worth, and parts for some older models are genuinely hard to find. When we come out on a service call for a legacy system, we'll tell you honestly whether it's worth fixing or whether you're better off budgeting for replacement. No pressure either way, just straight information.
